The Venue: Opening Bell (Mosaic location)-
The Bill- Ian Moore, Taylor Davis, Van Darien
The Money I Save Being Single on Valentines Day- $200 or so.
I’ve started to lose track on the number of times I’ve seen and reviewed Ian Moore. What can I say? Ian Moore’s acoustic show (with Kullen Fuchs, the hardest working man on stage) is by far the best show I’ve seen. The music, is fantastic, and something that is seemingly impossible to be created by just two men. On top of that, the stage presence and interaction with the crowd is second to none. There were several people at the show that night who had never seen Ian live, and they thought I was a little bit crazy before the show when I was telling them what to expect: “I don’t want to over-sell this or anything….but this is the best thing since bottled beer and indoor plumbing.” After the show, they all seemed to agree. Ian will be back in Dallas soon at the Granada, make sure and check him out!
The first time I heard Taylor play, he reminded me a little bit of Ian Moore with some of the vocal queues and styling that he uses. I soon found out that Taylor is also a huge Ian Moore fan, and was very happy to have the chance to open for Ian. Taylor played a great set, and kept the crowd involved and entertained with his humor, wit, and of course, his music. Taylor plays regularly around town, and you can find the next show on his myspace.
After seeing another show at another venue, I caught the last few songs of a set Van Darien was playing downtown a few months ago. I didn’t get the chance to really get a feel for her live show, but I was impressed with the music on the free demo she gave me. She is pretty new to the live music scene but she has some real songwriting talent, and her live performances are constantly improving. She was the first opening act of the night, and the crowd really responded well to her show. Make sure to keep an out out for her.
