Once again I could be accused of slacking off on my blog posting duties, and I would be found guilty by any standard. I still haven’t written a review of the David Garza show at Bend Studio from a few weeks ago, even though I keep saying that I’m going to get it done. Forgive my slacking, and forgive this review for being shorter than it deserves.
I’ve heard David’s name for years by various artists including Ian Moore. When Ally asked me to take pictures of the show I was pumped about having the chance to finally see the man I’ve heard about for so long. David did not disappoint! The show was fantastic, and the music was invigorating. David is an amazing musician, and gave an amazing performance on his birthday at Bend Studio sold out with his friends, fans and family. This was probably the most emotional I’ve seen a performer on stage. With his little nieces in the front row, he was visibly moved and emotional at several points during the show. That emotion became energy , and really added to the vibe in the room. He also seemed pleasantly surprised that the venue was quiet, controlled and not full of drunks! This, of course, is what makes the quiet non-bar venues like Bend so special.
The show was one of the better shows I’ve seen. David is fantastic on the guitar, and his vocal and lyrical skills will entertain the harshest critic. I believe he is going to be at the opening weekend for Bend Studio in Austin, and if you are reading this and are in the Austin area….you shouldn’t miss that show.
