I’m losing my mind. Or at least I’m losing my data it would seem.
I wrote a full blown review of two great shows that I went to see last month, but they have totally diapered! SO, I have decided write just a short review and post some pics from the shows in one post, as opposed to giving up and not writing anything. Side note having nothing to do with music: I’m watching Over the Hedge right now, not because I want to, but because I left it and Clerks 2 checked out for so long that Blockbuster has charged me $35 for them. I get most of that money back, but just based on principal I feel like I have to watch it before I send it back.
The first show I went to was Paul Sprawl at Standard and Pours. First of all, I’ve never seen anyone play the guitar like he can play. He doesn’t just strum, he slaps, pops, and rubs it to get a million different sounds that a musician can’t learn how to make in Guitar 101. He played on every part of the guitar, up and down the neck, right hand in front, left hand in front. Madness I tell you! His vocals were not ad developed as his guitar skill, but the guitar show alone is worth you going to check him out if he is in your area.
Next comes the show that I’ve been waiting over a year to see. Mr. Alejandro Escovedo played at Bend Studio for their last show of the year. The show was everything that I anticipated. He has one of those strong voices that is even more clear than it is powerful. So clear you could easily follow the stories and ballads captured in his melody. The quality of the music that night was as good as you would expect from a recording session. I could go on, but my recommendation would be to check out his music and make sure not to pass up a chance to see him live.
